Huahine, Raiatea, Taha'a, Bora Bora

Hawaiki Nui Va’a is a race for the emblematic Polynesian outrigger canoes. It is held in The Society Islands each year and takes place over three days. Hundreds of six-man outrigger canoes from French Polynesia, together with a few foreign crews, partcipate in this unique marathon race.

The most important outrigger canoe race

The event takes place each year during the first week of the school holidays in October. The race is on the open sea and in the lagoon and is for six-man outrigger canoes. The course is 80 mile long in total and is raced in three stages: Huahine – Raiatea-Taha’a -Bora Bora. There are nine categories and only the senior and veteran men complete all three stages. There is a category for companies which races from Raiatea to Bora Bora and the other categories compete in the waters around Raiatea.
